Ferrara

In 1995 UNESCO classified Ferrara‘s historic centre as a world heritage site, defining it as “…a fine example of a town planned in the Renaissance that has managed to retain the integrity of its historic centre”.

The Este family ruled Ferrara from 1208 to 1598. During this period Ferrara became a center of the arts. Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, Titian, and Petrarch, among others, spent time within its walls.
